Under the Broom Tree

Updated: Apr 8

Under the Broom Tree

There are moments in this walk with Christ where the weariness just seems to outweigh the will. Moments when you’re not backsliding or walking away from the Lord, but you’re just tired. You’ve done your best. You’ve prayed. You’ve served. You’ve shown up. And still, you find yourself sitting under what feels like a broom tree, wondering if you have anything left to give.

You’re not alone. Elijah, the prophet of fire and miracles, found himself in the same place. Just one chapter after calling down fire from heaven, he sat under a solitary broom tree and prayed that he might die. “It is enough,” he said. “I can’t do this anymore.” (1 Kings 19:4)

There’s something comforting about knowing that even the strongest have moments of weakness. Elijah wasn’t rebuked for his exhaustion. God didn’t shame him. Instead, He sent an angel with food, water, and a gentle touch. Before God gave Elijah his next assignment, He gave him rest. He let him sleep. He fed his body. And then, in a whisper, He reminded Elijah of his purpose.

Maybe that’s where you are right now. You’re not angry at God. You’re just exhausted. You’re not quitting the faith. But you’re wondering if you still have a place in the fight.

God sees you under the broom tree. And He is not disappointed in you. In fact, He is nearer than you realize. The same God who sent provision to Elijah is sending it to you—not just physical strength, but spiritual renewal. He is not through with you.

You may feel forgotten, but He hasn’t forgotten you. You may feel alone, but you are still part of the remnant. You may feel empty, but there is still oil in your vessel. And your best days are not all behind you. There’s still purpose. There’s still fire. There’s still work to be done.

For now, it’s okay to rest. It’s okay to be still and let Him restore you. The whisper is coming. The strength is returning. And when it does, rise in grace, not in guilt. Get up, not to perform, but to walk again in the power of His Spirit.

Because God still calls weary people. He still uses tired hands. He still speaks to hearts that have almost given up. He still moves through those who feel like they have nothing left.

So if you’re under the broom tree today, don’t be ashamed. Just listen.

There’s a whisper coming.
