Taking a Stand for God

Updated: Apr 4

I believe there has never been a more crucial time in history than now to take a stand for God. As Christians we need to draw a line in the sand and say enough is enough. We are at the peak of a cultural crisis in America where truth itself is under attack. In today’s what-ever-goes culture, there seems to be mass confusion of what is truly right and what is truly wrong. The moral compass of society is being spun radically by the magnetism of cultural relevance. There is a philosophy in today’s culture that says truth is determined by the consensus and that truth is relative to the changing and evolving culture. A good example of this is the LGBTQIA+ movement which finally just added a “+” to accommodate any future gender identity group to the movement. The sad thing is, that this movement believes that Christians hate them. The truth is that they often confuse taking a stand for truth and hate as the same thing. As Christians we love the person but hate the sin. This is too often translated as homophobia or even discrimination among the movement who is desperately seeking a rubber stamp approval from the Christian community.

This philosophy of relative truth is even held by many Christians today. We see this in our churches who over time have changed their stand on biblical truths and caved to the pressures of society. How is it that some churches today have embraced the ideology that being gay is biblically ok? That God somewhere between Romans 1:26-28 and now has changed his mind on the subject. I am alarmed at how many churches now openly condone the practice of homosexuality. It is not even uncommon to find homosexual pastors in main stream denominations.

I believe that we are at a precipice in America where Christians either compromise or take a stand, accept the status quo or stand in contrast of popular opinion. There is a polarization in today’s churches all across America who compromise the truth of the Gospel to win the favor of the world. I’m afraid that compromise has become the cornerstone of many modern progressive churches and the message being conveyed is one that borders on absolute insanity at times. It is critical that the world hears a clear and distinct voice from the church, one that is speaking absolute truth found in scripture and not cultural relevance.

In the book of Esther, Mordecai had to take a stand. He stood when everyone else bowed to Haman and he gives us a good example of what it looks like to stand against popular opinion. Taking a stand may cost you something, it usually does. Sometimes you may even find yourself standing alone, but at all costs we need to take a stand for the Lord, to be the influencers of culture and provide hope for those that are lost.

  • Romans 12:2 CSB – “Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God. “

  • John 15:18-19 CSB – “If the world hates you, understand that it hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own. However, because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of it, the world hates you.”

  • John 17:14-16 CSB – “I have given them your word. The world hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I am not praying that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.”

  • 1 John 5:19 CSB – “We know that we are of God, and the whole world is under the sway of the evil one.”
